In a telechat with my dad this afternoon, he paid glowing tributes to the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero. He recalled that after the civil war, it was Ado Bayero that ensured that the properties of Igbos that fled Kano during the civil war were returned to them. He also directed that rents collected on those properties during the war should be remitted back to the Igbo landlords to enable them rebuild their lives and businesses. It was that directive that emboldened several Igbos to return to Kano after war. As the parable of the Good Samaritan has shown, thy brother is not that person that shares the same faith nor tribe with you, but that person who stands up for you in your weakest moment. Ado Bayero is indeed a brother! He lives on. And may the next Emir follow his noble footsteps. Adieu, Emir!!!
