In a time when cultural foundations are shifting, and boundaries - TopicsExpress

In a time when cultural foundations are shifting, and boundaries are crumbling, be thankful if you have a Pastor who lives in reality of the calling. Youre a pastor, cant you fix it? Ive heard those words more than a couple of times. My feeling is that the person speaking those is waiting for me to reach in my pocket and pull out the packet of sacred Fixie dust and proceed with the sprinklin & fixin. Let me pull back the shade and let you look through a window; as a Pastor Im not perfect and I dont have any instant fixie dust. I have no assumption or arrogance of being perfect, no thoughts of grandeur that I can assume Gods ability to rearrange and restore broken parts of lives. I do, however, have a firm grasp on the reality of my calling. I will stand in front of folks and help them gain a firm grip on their shield of faith, and be willing to take darts intended for them while the shield is being lifted. I will teach and preach the un-compromised Gospel of Christ, despite the ebb and flow of malleable morals. This Gospel alone has the power to transform lives; to water it down would make the presentation pointless. I will climb in the trench and fight alongside the hurting, the oppressed, and the addicted as long as they are willing to commit to at least showing up to the battle. I will pray for, pray with, pray over, pray through, with someone concerning their struggle and pain. Yes, living a Biblical life in a world that is hostile toward anything that would spell out certainties is a challenge. Yet, its a challenge that God has prepared the believer for through the power of the Holy Spirit. Expect your pastor to pray with you. Expect them to fight alongside you. Expect them to deliver messages of truth and faith. Just dont lose heart when their pockets are void of fixie dust.
