In a whirl wind tour Washington State Governor Jay Inslee made his first official trip to the Tulalip Tribes today. Natosha Gobin, Lushootseed language teacher, led Tulalip staff in giving the Governor an official Tulalip welcome in Lushootseed at the Tulalip Administration Building. Following a session with Chairman Williams and members of the Board the Governor was given a short tour of Tulalip. First stop was the Boys & Girls Club where Tulalip youth welcomed the Governor. Coordinated by Don Hatch Sr., retired Board of Director and passionate advocate of the Tulalip Boys & Girls Club, youth met the Governor and then sang a song. Tulalip Elementary School Cultural Advisor, Chelsea Craig, led them in song as the Governor continued to talk with individual youth. They waited an hour for the Governor to arrive and were an energetic welcoming committee when he finally arrived! Thanks to Don Hatch and all B&G staff for coordinating such a great reception! The visit ended at the Hibulb Cultural Center and Natural History Preserve where Rediscovery Coordinator, Inez Bill, and Virginia Jones served the Governor harvested tea, Hibulb Bread with a delicious nettle and smoked salmon spread, along with fruit jam they harvested and preserved over the summer. Thank you Hibulb Cultural Center and Natural History staff!
