In a world where college coaches are getting $5M a year, is it - TopicsExpress

In a world where college coaches are getting $5M a year, is it fair that college athletes are not being paid? The UT football team took-in an $89 Million profit for the school last year -- a program like that can afford to share a bit more of the wealth, but how can they without undermining the nature of the college game experience? While there may not be good scenarios for paying college ball players, I just heard an interesting proposal. The proposal is that for programs that make over $5M a year, they should give the athletes a free ride for school -- not just undergrad -- but all the way through grad school, law school, etc. That sounds like a reasonable kind of alternate compensation that does not undermine the basic amateur nature of the sports. Not all athletes would take it or need it, but for those who do, it would be a nice kind of alternative compensation, worth upwards of several hundred thousand dollars.
