In acknowledgement of this Memorial Day, Lancaster High School (LHS) will be honoring fallen American heroes and veterans by displaying more than 4,800 flags on the Lancaster High School campus lawn. The event was created and executed by students within the Lancaster High School Marketing Education Program. LHS Marketing Education student Rayann Palmer said, “We are hoping the students and staff at Lancaster High School, along with the community, go into the Memorial Day weekend remembering the purpose of the holiday.” Obtaining the funds to purchase the flags required a lot of hard work by LHS students and some generous donations from organizations including Friends & Family of Veterans, Lancaster Tarhe Lions Club and Lancaster VFW. Kaitlin Frilling, one of the Lancaster High School student leaders responsible for the fundraising said, “Our goal was to collect at least $1,500 in donations from organizations, residents and Lancaster High School students. We were so excited to exceed our goal and collect over $2,200 in donations which meant we could purchase over 4,800 flags!” In addition to the Field of Flags display, LHS Marketing Education students are conducting a school fundraiser for Wounded Warrior Project, a charitable organization who helps injured service men and women. LHS Marketing Education senior Abigail Bowland said, “The Field of Flags and the Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser is a tribute to the sacrifice and service of the people who have served our country.” Student Kayla Hershberger summed it up this way, “It is our way of saying ‘thank you,’” “On behalf of our Marketing Education Program, LHS staff, and administration, we would like to invite the community to view our tribute to a very special group of men and women who provide us the freedoms to live as proud citizens. Our Field of Flags and Wounded Warrior Project are why Lancaster High School is The Place to Be for honoring our service men and women,” Lancaster High School Principal, Jack Greathouse said. The Field of Flags installation at Lancaster High School, will be on display Thursday, May 22 through the Memorial Day weekend. The fundraiser for Wounded Warrior Project will be taking place at the high school on Thursday, May 22, Friday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 27.
