In addition to posting stuff I see on Facebook, I also do a lot of Google and Google News searches for stories related to atheism and religion. One thing that Ive been noticing for months, now that I think about it, is a lot news stories and op-ed columns about the kinder, gentler atheism and atheisms friendlier, humanist face and things of that nature; or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, articles about fundamentalist atheists like Dawkins and Harris, and how they are hurting atheism. It literally irritates the living hell out of me! Atheism keeps getting this rap as some angry, mean, vengeful bully. Now, of course this isnt a shock. Its one way that religionists have found to counter the growing influence of atheism, logic, science, and rationality. But I am honestly getting tired of seeing, every time I turn around, someone writing a story trying to a) distance atheism from people like Dawkins and Harris, and b) make atheism seem like some sweet, innocent movement; like they are doing some sort of public relations work or something. Sure, we all know some asshole atheists, especially online. Hell, from time to time, Im one! lol But, every time someone writes some article about a kind, calm, gentle atheism, in my opinion its actually fueling the fires of the angry atheist stereotype. Its like theyre trying to kiss the ass of religionists, also, by saying, No, were not ALL like those meanies Dawkins and Harris and Hitchens. Theyre EXTREMISTS!! Were the GOOD atheists. We love everyone; we just dont believe in God. But if you do, awesome! Now, lets hold hands and sing Kumbaya. I dont know. Just felt the need to rant :-) LIKE and SHARE Believing in imaginary friends and fairy tales is outside of my age bracket
