In all actuality, main stream orthodox economic thought in the western world is NOT about maintaining a stable society If you read some of the works of Ludwig Von Mises and Milton Friedman, you will learn that the main focus of European Economic Thought is Financial Terrorism. You saw this in the Sub Prime Mortgage Crisis, you see it in Real Estate Gentrification, you see it in High Speed Commodities Trading, You see it in Collateralized Debt Obligations and all of these complex financial instruments used to exponentially increase public and private debt, for the sake of pure profit and the full spectrum dominance of Central Bank Shareholders like a Prince Charles and Evelyn Rothschild. Mainstream Economic thought is Euro-Economics and Euro-Economics is centered around Financial Terrorism.
