In all my career as a writer, theres not been anything more - TopicsExpress

In all my career as a writer, theres not been anything more thrilling than listening to non-Haitian college students discuss in depth (and in French!) my novel Sortilège Haïtien. Listening to these girls dissect the plot, talk about their impressions of Haiti and her political antics, question the motives and decisions of Manon and Etienne, I realized that readers often understand novels better than the writer herself. And I became a more fervent believer that characters and stories happen to me; I do not create them.
