In all my trips to Ireland Ive always flown into Shannon rather than Dublin. My reasons are twofold; One, I am a creature of habit and two, I always visit the Cliffs of Moher on my first day in for good luck. It helps that the Cliffs are only a 90 minute drive from Shannon and that the cliffs are near the village of Doolin which is both a scenic coastal area and a nice place to flop and recover from the jet lag. As tiny as it is, Doolin is a well known music center and has pubs that play host to some of the best Irish trad music in Ireland.
