In all of last weeks excitement, I forgot to announce that IM OFFICIALLY DONE with #COURSEWORK!!! Okay to many of you that means nothing... but it is a major hurdle in my journey towards becoming #DrTheShit!!! This means that Ive now entered into the researcher phase of my program. In the meantime, if youre interested... check out my latest paper Gravity: Oppositional Fashion and the Politics of Sagging ABSTRACT: In this paper I argue that ongoing controversies surrounding sagging contribute to a discourse of contempt and negativity (gravity) as it relates to black masculinity. Through and understanding of the sociological functions of fashion and by engaging with the motivations behind the trend of sagging, we might form new vocabularies for discourse around black masculinity, as well as the contemporary and historic spectacle of race and resistance.
