In an earlier post on my Facebook wall (May 27th 2013) where I had asked the public to identify who amongst a group of Nigerian State Governors in a particular picture could be described as an ‘Executive Tout’, some had expressed surprise when I had identified the Lagos State Governor, as the ideal candidate. The various actions of this character over the past couple of weeks has given credence that truly, at the very least, the true vile persona of this character (and his clique) is coming to the fore. Whilst the dust is yet to settle over Mr. Fashola’s government’s unconstitutional and illegitimate deportation of Nigerians within Nigeria, the same character has yet orchestrated the sealing up (and comical unsealing) of the premises of one of his most vociferous critics over the deportation saga – ex-governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu. Any doubt as to the fact that the sealing up of Mr. Kalu’s house was politically motivated and directly orchestrated by Mr. Fashola’s is erased by the so-called ‘kind intervention of Fashola’ ordering a re-opening of the sealed premises – the message is quite loud and clear: “criticize ‘King’ Fashola, and the machinery of the Lagos State Government will be unleashed on you”! Are we all supposed to shy away in fear or cower in timidity? ‘King’ Fashola, begin to think of the private cars, houses and children you will be seizing in ‘pursuance of laws’ of Lagos State! This is political rascality at its worst. We are all witnesses to the amount of abuse and ridicule heaped on the person and office of other political office holders who have, in the spirit of ‘democracy’ allowed freedom of speech without resorting to under-hand tactics. For instance, with what has been heaped on the President of the Federal Republic, Goodluck Jonathan could have easily financially strangulated opposition States, rendered destitute those who dared oppose him or even effect the departure into exile of some others – using legitimate powers available to his Office (Obasanjo did all this during his era), yet opposition and critics are allowed to live their lives without molestation or seizures. Again, I reiterate the urgent need for the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, in exercise of his functions Chief Law Officer of the Federation, to take more proactive interest in excesses of State governments. The contraption is being stretched to its limits.
