In an earlier post today I said if the election were held today I would vote for one of the two candidates that have said they would put the state on sustainable budgets -- Alaska Libertarian Party candidate, Care Clift, or the Alaska Constitution Party candidate, J. R. Meyers. In response I have received several notes suggesting I am wasting my time on such an effort. I disagree. Here is what noted Presidential historian Michael Beschloss said about Ross Perot in 1992: Perot was the first candidate really in a big way to float the idea that the deficit was a bad thing. .... By the time Bill Clinton was elected that fall, if he had not done something about the deficit he would have been in big trouble and that was largely Ross Perot’s doing.” With 45 days remaining in an incresasingly tight race, my view is supporting fiscally sound candidates is exactly the right thing to be doing at this point to cause the others to talk about the issue and be in big trouble if they dont do something about it if elected. ow.ly/BKd9Z
