In an effort to be more accountable for my professional work, Ive - TopicsExpress

In an effort to be more accountable for my professional work, Ive decided to chronicle some daily work towards my current project - a new Exalted novel that was a Kickstarter stretch goal for Exalted 3rd Edition. Its been a long time since Ive worked on this game line; Compass of the Celestial Directions, Vol 1: The Blessed Isle came out in 2006. So Im re-immersing myself into the materials through reading, research, and contemplative exploration of the aesthetic. This mornings work included: Reading the first 50 pages of Chosen of the Sun, Richard Danskys premiere Exalted novel. I had forgotten how fun (and lovely) Exalted writing can be. Im looking forward to tearing through CotS and the rest of the early Exalted novels (including re-reading my own). As well, I drew my first contemplation card from the deck of Exalted Tarot that the wonderful Lee Moyer created for an Exalted campaign he was playing in, and loaned to me to help me focus on the job before me. The deck has 5 suits (staves, swords, cups, coins, and hearthflowers), features the Celestials as Major Arcana, and... is as yet undefined. Meaning, no specific definitions for the cards has been written. So, part of what Im going to be doing for myself each day is drawing a focal card and defining what that means, based on my knowledge of traditional tarot, my understanding of Exalted, and my personal life-experiences that seem relevant. Todays card was the Two Of Cups. Traditionally, this is a card of external partnership, a synergy of sorts between two people. It might be romantic partners, parent-child, co-creators, or mentor-student, but there is a strong bond represented, even if it is a temporary one, and the two together can be more, do more, accomplish more than either could have alone. In addition, it represents ones relationship with ones self, balancing the internal voices and the external mask, the who we are and the who we can allow ourselves to be seen as. These themes ring very true for Exalted as well - each Chosen has the who that they were, and the who that they become, and they must find a way to weave those two halves into a whole that is (ideally) stronger and more balanced than either would be alone.
