In ancient mythology, there is a magical bird who burned and was reborn from the ashes. The Phoenix. Maybe you know the story? In Defense of AnimalsAt IDA we have a Phoenix too - she is a little dog our members ask to hear about more than any other. And when I received an update recently, I knew I had to share it with you. Let me start at the beginning... because you need to see the amazing work you keep alive for abused, abandoned and exploited animals each time you give to In Defense of Animals. Even when it seems there is no spark of life left... Even when it seems the Phoenix is dead... Its what we thought when a good Samaritan first brought her to IDAs Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS)... Our eyes widened when we saw her wounds. It looked like a pack of wild animals - coyotes perhaps - had savagely attacked this helpless pup with the feathery Disney eyelashes. In a flash, our veterinarian from Mississippi State University (who, fortunately, was already on site performing spay/neuter surgeries) went to work. What he found was far worse. In Defense of Animals Click on image to see video A terribly disturbed human being had intentionally poured BOILING WATER on this sweet dog’s head. Like molten lava, it dripped and swirled around her ears, down her back and around her sides. The angry burn tracks showed she must have been trustingly seated AT THE FEET of her twisted friend... the friend who then doused her with boiling water and dumped her in a lonely ditch. For Phoenix, to rise from crueltys ashes would require thousands of dollars in urgent round-the-clock care, antibiotics, heavy pain relievers, and a patient, long term recovery. Donations from people like you covered it ALL. You gave our Phoenix wings to fly. I dont have to tell you there are other abused dogs, cats, horses and other animals who would give their undying love and devotion to have the same chance as Phoenix. But I do have to ask if you will please give now to help us have the resources for those very friends. Youve seen the remarkable effects of your generosity. Even $5 or $10 or $25 to cover a course of antibiotics will be life-changing for them. In Defense of AnimalsTheres one last piece of the story. The update I received from the loving family Phoenix was adopted into after IDA-HAS carefully screened her for the perfect home. They write: This winter she slept on our bed, with her back pressed up against mine; so not just one rescued dog on the bed, but two! We are so grateful - we cant imagine how much poorer our lives would be without her, our happy girl. There is a Phoenix who waits in every abused animal. Please give as generously as you can so we can help them rise from crueltys ashes. Thank you so much for caring.
