In another post Sharon Livingston had an email from Commissioner/Candidate Susan Flores where my name was mentioned. I will respond here so as to not muddy the waters in that thread. Susan Flores said I was wrong about having 5 vs 3 commissioners. Well, she needs to convince the voters, not me. It was not my idea but came from a question from a voter. I told him I would find out why we didnt have 5. The more I researched it and asked many, many people, the more convinced I became. (1) Otero County Commission has blown other peoples money many times the YEARLY expense of two more commissioners IN A SINGLE VOTE. (2) Commissioners are required to live in their district. I believe the intent is that representatives know and have to live with the consequences of their votes. Tell the voters of Boles Acres, Dog Canyon, Oro Grande, Otero Mesa, Chaparral, etc. they get the attention and fair treatment they deserve! I hear otherwise. (3) County Commissioners are elected to represent the will of their constituents NOT to tell them what is best for them. If I hear one more commissioner say I was elected to represent ALL of Otero County, they will get called on that publically because they are misinformed. (4) Harder to influence 5 than 3. (5) More input, better result. Someone did tell me but it will make it harder to get anything done. My response was, And that is a bad thing? They laughed and got my point.
