In as much as it is commendable to have Polytechnic in Rivers state and other states, I think Bonny Polytechnic is a misplaced priority. Polytechnic and colleges of education are on strike close to a year owing largely to under funding. Federal Government is crying for paucity of fund, then while increasing your burden? Hypocrisy of government. At one hand, government is encouraging private tertiary institutions and at the same time fund meant to build infrastructure for private participation is now diverted for Polytechnic in Bonny and other new polytechnic. Got to understand that Road/bridge project to Bonny is abandoned and federal government could complete the road / bridge than polytechnic. Rivers state is playing host to Uniport, RUST, Rivpoly, COE, Madona university. Rivers state has boundary with Abia state, Imo state, Akwa Ibom state and Bayelsa state. Based on statistics, each of the states has the same or more tertiary institutions like Rivers state. I think there is need for President Jonathan think of a more rewarding project for Bonny, Rivers state and Nigeria at large. Also there is need to resolve strike issue before going public for new polytechnic in the country. We need to be serious pls!
