In case anybody is actually worried about using artificial sweeteners, I would like to assure you that this article in Nature, the foremost science publication on this (European) side of the Atlantic, was grossly irresponsible in attributing any credibility to the tiny tiny study that led to it. Its like saying, Hey I got a few mates who took some stuff, and just above half of them had some problems. The whole field of metabolic disorders is strewn with rubbish from which emerge a few interesting questions, but certainly not enough data to make even a tentative theory of processes and interactions possible yet. It may even be a complete misinterpretation of homeostasis - how the individual organism self regulates. But I bet the news outlets will make a storm out of this, allowing the snake oil merchants to make loadsa money by scaring people.
