In case anybody missed this sad news, this great actor died last week at the age of 98. And by a strange coincidence, on LLOYD RUTZKYS TOP 400 STARS OF ALL-TIME list, he was ranked number 98 (right behind Meryl Streep, and just ahead of Walter Matthau). And dont anybody dare think that being barely in my Top 100 is an insult. Ive estimated Ive seen far more than one hundred thousand actors in my lifetime performing in my lifetime, on screen. So to be ranked on my list is an immense honor, not to be taken lightly. And for the record, my Top 40 are, from 1-40: Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, James Cagney, Clint Eastwood, Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, Gary Cooper. Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Peter OToole, Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Jack Nicholson, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Burton, Michael Caine, Dustin Hoffman, Clark Gable, James Stewart, Sean Connery, Robert Duvall, Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, Warren Beatty, John Wayne, Anthony Quinn, Rod Steiger, James Dean, Cary Grant, Charles Bronson, Faye Dunaway, Elizabeth Taylor, Leonardo DiCaprio, William Holden, James Earl Jones, Sophia Loren and Katharine Hepburn.
