In case anyone doubts it, the expression -- he tried to Jew me - TopicsExpress

In case anyone doubts it, the expression -- he tried to Jew me down -- is still used constantly in Minneapolis and no doubt all over enlightened Minnesota. Usually by people who have way more money than I do, and way more ability to bargain and negotiate than I would even think to have. Some are nice people who think it is just an expression. Others are...well...dicks... which is just an expression. In any case, between that and the Nazi parties -- full regalia and decorations, much beer swilling and raucous pleasure and tingle at being in Gestapo uniforms, no doubt --- that happen at Gasthofs restaurant 5 minutes from me, across the bridge in Northeast Minneapolis -- a veritable artists haven --Paris Northeast (definitely just an expression) where the artists dont seem bothered enough by Nazi parties down the street to ever do anything about that in their neighborhood.... ----- I know that I am making the right decision to get the ...out of here! And may I say, Minneapolis tried to Nazi me down in a million ways. Some looked like artists. Some looked like leftists. Some looked like neighborhood arts organizations. Some looked like solidarity. Some looked conscious. Some looked like schools. Some looked like professors. Some looked like poets. But a whole lotta them tried to Nazi me down into the depths of despair and exclusion and diminishment. And when I talk to others, I hear that I was not alone in this. So, I give you back this little piece of land you had already stolen. Enjoy your cabins, your two houses, your great traditions, your we work harder than anyone else, your the only good......is a dead....., your unexamined lack of self-reflection, your belief that the vanguard is all white, your thudding applause for mediocrity as long as its your own, your territorial rationalizations for who and what fits and who and what doesnt, your insular appreciation of everyone you went to high school with and/or are blood-related and genetically almost identical to; your smorgasbord multi-culturalism -- appreciating those newcomers and other people of color who cook for you, dance for you, and brighten up your drab white because Minnesota tried to WHITE me down GERMAN me down, NORWEGIAN me down, SWEDISH me down; make me feel I had nothing to contribute because they had it all covered, while, really, they were just covering. Ciao.
