In case you didnt know... I began a mission Mar.2013. The Outer Banks, NC, is an island. Habitat to some amazing wildlife, not to disclose the free~roaming cats. Due to no fault of their own, community cats have thrived here because of the natural surroundings that provide shelter and the abundant food source. A natural food source, but one that also includes the fisheries and seasonal restaurants that as well thrive here. There have been animal activists that have TNRd over the years but we were dominated by a shelter, authorities and a basic ignorance that Trap and Kill was the only way. The futile chase began of cats reproducing at a rate generally 5xs faster than we could keep up. Business owners turned their heads as the AC truck drove off with trapped cats. They really didnt care to think about where the cats were going, as long as they were gone. We are not indifferent than big cities across the country that are bountiful in community cats,. The forward movement of TNR has already been practiced, WITH PROVEN RESULTS, for years. TNR- Trap-Neuter-RETURN (I emphasize the Return because just Release will not allow for the structure to flow properly) is the only proven, humane method of wild cat over-population control. To Return the cat to its habitat after neuter is key to keeping other -unsterilized- cats at bay. The resources are there, the cats will come. So, I gathered facts. I selected a veterinarian to approach that would assist in this mission to find a resolve and not just to make a good paycheck. That was less than a year and a half ago. Yesterday, I returned my #177th TNR that will now live a better life. Homes have been found for close to 80 kittens that were rescued. Today, I can say, Im proud of where I live. The local SPCA, the board of directors, the shelters, rescuers and fosters are networking together to provide information and the knowledge needed to find a resolve. T-N-R is for Everybody, not just the cat-lover. Those that are not cat people will also reap the benefit of population control. There is no longer competition of mating among the cats. The cats are healthier and vaccinated. They live more cohesively. WE live more cohesively. It can be done. Please follow my mission on Facebook, Feline Fix Foundation, Kitty Hawk, NC. Every cat Ive been able to help assist is featured. Thank you for allowing me the time to justify my mission. The Outer Banks SPCA, Feline Hope Animal Shelter, The Friends Project, Coastal Humane Society, The Outer Banks Veterinarian Hospital and other offices, all have been of utmost needed assistance to make this work. Business owners and individuals are catching on and my hope is that TNR can become a trend long enough so that it begins to involve everybody.
