In case you didnt know yet, rain brought Lake Freeman back to a normal level today. Thats good news for people who make their living at the lake and those who enjoy it. They also have an agreement, the result of my hard work on behalf of concerned Hoosiers, between the federal government and the local power company. U.S. Fish & Wildlife permitted NIPSCO, operator of Oakdale Dam, to let the Tippecanoe River run more naturally, so drastic drops at Lake Freeman, like the one we’ve experienced, will be less likely. But my Congressional staff and I are still working hard to make sure, when the government makes decisions, it takes into account human beings -- their livelihoods and safety. If it had this time, U.S. Fish & Wildlife would have saved Hoosiers a lot of trouble. So I’m focused on making the agency more accountable to the people in my district and Indiana.
