In case you dont get or read the Porch Press: Come back to St. Paul for Easter Our Southeast Atlanta neighborhoods are growing, diverse, dynamic and ever changing. Schools, neighborhoods and even streets – right down to a block – are seeing incredible growth and change. And so are our churches. St. Paul has been a cornerstone of the Grant Park and Southeast Atlanta community for more than a century. We’ve seen the pews filled with hundreds of people, and we’ve worshipped among just a few dozen. We’ve seen streams of people and families come to the gym to play basketball and for our summer recreation camps. We’ve seen nearly all of you, with your friends, come through the sanctuary for the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes. And we’re so happy many of you came back to support the Golden Age Center this past Fat Tuesday for our annual pancake supper. “But we miss seeing you on Sundays,” said St. Paul’s pastor, Rev. Ellen Hopkins. Pastor Ellen moved to Grant Park last year, she said, because she loves everything about this community. “I would love to see more members of this community come back to St. Paul.” Easter is a time of rebirth and renewal. It’s a time to brush the dust off your thoughts of religion and spirituality, and revisit them. It’s a time to resurrect what used to make you feel good about St. Paul and come and see what we are about today. With an experienced pastor and a growing congregation, you are always welcome. And what better time to come back than Easter? Holy Week began this past Sunday as we celebrated Palm Sunday. Maundy Thursday is on April 17, at 7 pm. This service includes foot washing (if desired), Holy Communion commemorating the Last Supper, and the stripping of the altar. Good Friday follows on April 18 with a Tenebrae service (service of darkness), also at 7 pm. It will feature our full choir, some contemporary music and scripture readings of the last Words of Jesus. St. Paul is the only church that takes advantage of the most beautiful backdrop in Atlanta for a sunrise service, and that’s Oakland Cemetery. Our Easter Sunrise Service will be on April 20 at 7am on the lawn closest to Maynard Jackson’s grave. We’ll then hold our traditional Easter worship at 11am in the St. Paul sanctuary with music courtesy of the choir and also the fabulous Paulines. Please come join us.
