In case you havent heard, the Maidens won yesterday against region opponent Turner County to put them 9-2 in region play. Defensively Turner seemed to have a pitching edge. #7 Heather Douglas, who pitched the game for the Rebels, held Carter, Baxter, Steele, Wainwright, and Storey hitless and through 5 innings threw 23 first pitch strikes with three strikeouts and 0 walks. She allowed 6 hits and hit 3 batters. That combined wih the Rebels 5 fielding errors allowed the Maidens to dominate the game. The Maidens took advantage of every error and #6 Cierra Shelton rallied her team with 3 hits with #3 Carla Giddens right behind her with 2. #25 Alley Bennett had 1, but it was a 3 run over the fence home run with the Maidens looking down 2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd. The Maidens split pitching duties today with #7 Cally Wainwright starting. Wainwright pitched 3 innings allowing 5 hits and totaling 2 strikeouts with 9 first pitch strikes and 0 walks. In the 4th #12 Callyn Carter came on in relief and through 2 innings walked 4 and struck out 1. The Maidens seemed unusually shaky in the field with a few errant throws, but none that allowed extra bases or runs. In the end only 1 scored error attributed to a runner on base. The Maidens next face region opponents the Telfair County Trojans on Thursday 9/25 right here at Maiden Field. We need to see these bleachers filled and lots of noise coming from the stands as they look for their 10th region win. Come out and support the girls and have a great afternoon watching some of Charlton Countys finest athletes.
