In case you havent seen my posts before about these kinds of hilarious things.....when we adopted Bethany and Danny at ages 6 and 7, they had very little foundational knowledge that is just everyday knowledge for most children. I learned that I needed to just literally point out the obvious constantly. For example, taking a drive and saying, That is a cow. It says moo. Thats where our milk comes from. Very shocking sometimes, but very common in children adopted from foster care at an older age. (yes, I know that if you think about that too long, its depressing, so lets just focus on the funny and awesome ways that we find out these gaps in their knowledge). Tonight was one of those nights. The little ones and I had come home from a Band Booster meeting that ran later than usual, so we were tired and hungry. We cooked a quick meal, ate, and the kids got ready for bed. Pretty soon after they went upstairs to bed, Bethany poked her head up over the stair rail and looked down at Mark and I. Now, remember that little black girls wear a cap or hair wrap to bed to keep their hair from getting all messed up. Bethanys hair is pulled up into a high ponytail currently, so her black shower cap-shaped hair cover was sticking up right at the top of her head. As if that wasnt funny enough, she said, DAD. Our air conditioner is making a weird sound! Mark asked what she meant and with her mouth in a crooked grin she went, RRrrrrrrrr-RRRRrrrrrr!!! I tried to hold it in, but I glanced at Marks face and LOST IT when I saw that he was already doing his standard Mark Henry chuckle!!! You know how when youre really tired, once you start laughing, you cant stop?! Well, Mark replied to her, Bethany. That. Is a frog in the backyard. bahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Mark has been complaining for days about that frog!! I was howling at this point!!! I even went to the bathroom about 10 minutes later, started picturing her crooked mouth again and that awful sound she made, and I started laughing all over again! It was echoing in the bathroom!!! Oh my gosh. My life is so weird and awesome.
