In case you missed it... On June 12, DC held a #summermeal kick-off event. Mayor Vincent C. Gray, and representatives from Office of the State Superintendent of Education, DC Department of Parks and Recreation, and D.C. Hunger Solutions were joined by U.S.D.A. Under-Secretary Kevin Concannon at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School to celebrate the success of the D.C. Free Summer Meals Program. Mayor Gray commended the D.C. Free Summer Meals program, which has led the nation in the percentage of children served for eight years. He also charged city leaders to do more to serve hungry children throughout the summer. Fuel Up to Play 60 brought former Washington Redskin, Brian Mitchell, who challenged the kids in the audience to eat healthy and stay active throughout the summer.
