In collaboration with talented Forester Kate of Kalamazoo College (follow her at instagram/k8belew!), HQ presents a Choose Your Own Adventure Forest tale - Part 2! If you missed the first part of the story, go here to read it first: bit.ly/1wVCCBG “Yeah, we’d love to join your campsite,” you hear yourself say. You look back at your car and to your friend and suddenly realize it’s your turn to drive through security. You exchange friendly smiles with the volunteers, receive maps, and soon you’re on the way to your campsite. Your car lumbers across the grass in a sea of many others. Already tapestries and flags are painting the sky, they ripple a bit with the breeze. Your windows are rolled down, and you keep your eye steadily on the huge, white van you’re following. Periodically, a girl’s arm hangs out throwing peace signs to the cars behind you. When you finally pull into the row where you’ll be camping, people are piling out of the cars all around you. Waves of hula-hoops, blankets, chairs, tent bags, pizza boxes, bubble wands, and even a slip and slide cascade out of the van. You make eye contact with your new neighbors and they nod and smile at you in understanding. We’ve made it, you think to yourself. You know you’ve come to the right place. The guy with the, “smile you’re beautiful sign,” jogs over and you throw him a drink. He smiles ear to ear. “We’re just gonna get these tents set up if you wanna lend a hand?” You had thought about taking a nap in your car, but now it looks as if you can sleep when you return back to the default world. You grab a corner of a tarp and start helping. The vibrations of car speakers fill the field you’ll be calling home for the weekend. Another girl in your campsite sticks solar powered lamps behind the back of her car next to you. “This way we won’t get lost on our journey,” she says, and pulls a brightly covered scarf tightly across her shoulders. Her energy is contagious. With everyone helping each other, your campsite has been constructed more quickly than you imagined, and you’re already in the throes of Michigan summer afternoon. People begin to migrate towards the entrance to The Forest. The girl with the solar powered lamps and the round glasses approaches you, “can you hold this mirror up for me?” she asks, as she places a rhinestone carefully against the corner of each eye. “I can’t decide,” she starts, “should we take a nap until night approaches, or should we head into the forest right when it opens? I feel like both ideas would be absolute magic,” she says, “What do you think?” Choose your own adventure: Say, “I think we should wait until nightfall to see all the lights.” Or “I don’t think I can wait anymore, let’s go now.” Comment Wait or To The Forest below to vote for where we all go next!
