You need the aircraft, the fuel, the munitions supply and maintenance, the avionics, the runway and its engineers, the rest of the support. You need a thousand or so people for each squadron, and a battle management force to go with them. In short, you need an Air Force. The Army is no more capable of handling it than the USAF is of running an infantry mission. Instead, give the Army to the USAF. Just as the Marines are the ground corps of the Navy, the Army can be the ground corps of the Air Force. Wed need a transitional period whole Soldiers qualify to the higher USAF standards or leave by attrition. If you think a grunt officer is able to comprehend the support tail for air ops, youve smoked too much dope. Im a veteran of both branches. Let infantry officers manage air ops and well be trying march across the ocean to fight.
