In composing Montage for Jeremy Monteiro to perform with the SCO, - TopicsExpress

In composing Montage for Jeremy Monteiro to perform with the SCO, I chose to re-visit the style of Jazz fusion which Jeremy, drummer Tamagoh and I so keenly explored in the 1980s, when we were in the SAF Music & Drama Company. I drew upon elements that pervaded our musical vocabulary during that embryonic stage of our lives: the disjunct melodic structures, piquant harmonies and syncopated rhythmic shifts. As a result Montage echoes with deeply-rooted resonances of our shared musical history. A great musician sounds astounding even through a casual iPhone recording, and furthermore, while practicing. Here, Jeremys piano tone still sounds rich and gorgeous, not to mention the signature swish and thwack of Tamas exquisite cymbals and skins, no thanks to Apples microscopic pinhole of a microphone.
