In conjunction with homecoming activities this weekend, members of the Mooreland High School class of 1979 are planning a group response to the ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) ice bucket challenge during the parade Friday, Sept. 19. The class is also planning a cornhole tournament fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 20. A member of the class, Mark Clark, has ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was diagnosed in March, 2012, with the deadly disease which has no cure and no real treatment. Class representative Shelly (Enterline) Ansley said the group has two goals in mind, financial aid for Mark and his family and to help fund research through the ALS Association. The class will meet west of Jiffy Trip at 4:45 p.m. on Friday to start the parade. Several classmates will take the challenge and dump ice water on themselves during the parade. Members of the class and others who would like to participate are invited to take the challenge in front of Central National Bank at the tail end of the parade. Ansley and the class asks that those accepting the challenge donate $25 or more to the Clark Family Benefit Fund at Stock Exchange Bank in Woodward, or give to the ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, “Mark Clark’s Legacy” Account, P.O. Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007. The class will also host a cornhole fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10:00 a.m. on Enterline Field. Two or three competition levels will be offered: barely played, played some and played a lot. Each division will offer first prizes of $100 and second place awards of $20. Entry fee is $10 per person or $20 per team. Commemorative Oklahoma State University cornhole boards will be auctioned off at conclusion of the event. Contact Kathryn Swigart at 580-571-2128 or view the group’s Facebook page at facebook “Mark Clark’s Legacy” for more information.
