In continuation of our efforts to ensure speedy rehabilitation - TopicsExpress

In continuation of our efforts to ensure speedy rehabilitation post floods, I along with our party MPs met the Prime Minister and presented a memorandum demanding rebuilding a new Jammu & Kashmir in the aftermath of the recent devastating floods. We also suggested that the post flood rehabilitation focus should be on restoration of livelihoods and rebuilding of local economy. It was important for the PM to assure the people of J&K that the country was with them in this hour of crisis. Our memorandum also demanded that Govt of India should workout J&Ks partnership with the 36 country consortium of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). We urged the PM to monitor every developmental project for J&K himself and stressed that the GOI must fully fund the kind delayed Rs 44000 crore relief and rehabilitation plan, also taking some practical and urgent measures to address the issues of immediate concern on ground. In view of the fast approaching winters since construction wont be possible, we have asked for financial assistance for construction of temporary shelters. Also market intervention is required by the Govt to ensure that the cost if conducting horticulture business, which has dramatically shot up, is subsidized for this season. The agriculture debt waiver & relief scheme of 2008 which hardly benefited J&K, must be extended to the state for some time. We have also asked for loss assessment of uninsured, the liabilities of households and businesses be taken into consideration and addressed by the govt. Together we can and shall rebuild this state.
