In continuing my tough love for the Browns, how exactly did the Browns improve over the winter? Dansby and Whitner? Whitner is a physical BEAST (sun dont go down in his weight room) but is his 10th year. He had 58 tackles last year. TJ Ward had 112. He is 6? yrs older than TJ, I love his intangibles but we have a reasonable coaching staff in place so no need for another coach. Why did we pay more for Whitner than Ward got? Ward wanted OUT. Pettines D has the outside guys pressing hard and often circa Mike Haynes/Lester Hayes. With less responsibility to the perimeters he is being counted on for run support and his physique will help but Ward was better. Dansby is a move we will be shaking our heads at. Forbes rated him 3rd in the most overpaid players in the NFL in 2012. The Dolphins cut him loose after 2012 and he struggled to find a home. He got a 1 year contract with the Cardinals for ~$2.25mil. The Cards replaced him with Ernie Simms. Nice prospect out of college but has been hurt constantly prompting the Lions to cut him loose. The Browns competed for his rights with one team (Tenn). Had arguably his best season last year and surely his motivation (previously/scrutinized) was not to get a good last contract. Deja Vu all over again: signed a couple veterans at the end of their career and they are pawned off as solutions based on what the players did 6-7yrs ago. Can you say WILLIE MCGINNIS?, Robert Griffin?, David Bowens, Brian Russell, Brent Boyer, Scott Fujita? and MOST of all (though not on his last leg yet- PAUL KRUEGER?
