In contrast to PNoys rude, crude and discourteous speech, Pope - TopicsExpress

In contrast to PNoys rude, crude and discourteous speech, Pope Francis responded with a firm challenge to reject every form of corruption which diverts resources from the poor, and to make concerted efforts to ensure the inclusion of every man and woman and child in the life of the community. It was a ringing criticism of government but delivered in dignified language. The Pope praised the Philippines’ important role in fostering understanding and cooperation among the countries of Asia through the efforts and sacrifices of the oft-neglected OFWs and their real contribution to the countries where they work. The Pope also praised the Philippines rich cultural and religious heritage of which your country is proud, and the governments praiseworthy efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation between the followers of the different religions. He singled out the progress made in bringing peace to the south of the country and hoped that the solutions to the problems would be just and in accord with the nation’s founding principles and respectful of the inalienable rights of all, including the indigenous peoples and religious minorities. Beautiful and elegant! It pressed all the right buttons--unlike that other speech which, frankly, made me ashamed as a Filipino for having such a petty, vindictive president.
