In contrast to the delicate and priceless natural beauty I saw in Panama, was this: Sweaty, high-rise tenement slums, crammed with people, and cluttering the outer skyline of Panama City. Some of these monsters were built after the 1989 US invasion left some villages destroyed by errant American bombs. I see disgraceful poverty everyday here in Honduras, but it rarely spooks me the way these congested, concrete cubicles did when I saw them. I had a taxi driver take me into and around these neighborhoods so I could see and feel what it was like. And, it was big-time scary. He assured me that he didnt want to spend time hanging around, so we didnt stay long....
