In conversation with a brother in America who posted a shot of six black rapists convicted there (justly so) American style: Cool, it helps to get the perspective from that side, interesting to see how in Atlanta you are the minority. Its a changing world and here (in South Africa) you (white) are a minority too but that is no longer so much of an issue, you are taken as human regardless. But even so you still get vast inequality that will be here for a long time still until real changes take place, the black majority remain economically dispossessed while the white minority continue desperately hanging on to institutionalised white priviledge. Now back to my point there, it is interesting (to me) to see how the Pistorius trial is playing out, how we have a traditionally white racist lawyer protecting a white racist athlete, why I cannot say, its his death knell so far as I am concerned, an international blunder that South Africa seems to be making head over heels after the death of Mandela. Its like we cant trip over ourselves quickly enough. Why racist? Well, his justification: he thought there were intruders (black intruders) and felt justified to protect himself. As if that was a good reason, and enough reason to blast away. Thats just so typical of the white male attitude here and I am guessing to a degree there too. Blast now, think twice later. Just in case. Meanwhile, and this is the sick part, it was his own issues he was not dealing with and could think only to shoot them all away I dont like Mondays style, shooting the whole day down. Then when hes done, mission accomplished, now right, find somebody to blame, there ready at hand, the thug of history, ready and willing. And the whole of South Africa, and the world, understands. And every white girl too. That she must be the sacrifice too to continue the dream that you can kill anybody you like in the name of white priviledge and blame it on the black man. Right? And get away with it. And walk away with a smile on your face. Sorry, seen that smile too often, here to take it off. Without no gun in my hand.
