In criminal cases, the prosecution faces an uphill battle of proving guilt beyond reasonable doubt. When the accused chooses a trial by jury, the jury is then tasked with meticulously perusing the facts and evidence to determine whether or not the accused is guilty. This is brilliantly shown in the Russian movie, 12 (2007), which is director/actor Nikita Mikhalkov’s adaptation of Reginald Rose’s play, Twelve Angry Men. The film may be a bit slow in the beginning, but it gets very interesting when each of the twelve jury members’ decision shifts. Noteworthy to mention; this film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
