In elementary school we wrote with pencils, but in middle-school, - TopicsExpress

In elementary school we wrote with pencils, but in middle-school, we learned joined-up writing, using a fountain pen in Bombay of the 1960s. But when you can touch type it is like having a neural connection to the machine. You no longer have to think about typing and you can work much closer to the speed of thought. What would the world be like when cursive writing, a.k.a. “running hand” is forgotten? What do we get in return for dropping the writing system that we have used for centuries? Finland is moving into the digital age by ditching the pen in favour of keyboards. Finland plans to stop teaching handwriting to children, from autumn 2016. Their schools will teach only keyboard skills and “texting”. Imagine a world where every user could type fast. The basic user relationship would change from consumer to producer. Perhaps in the not so distant future children will laugh when shown the writing instruments of the past - the ball point pen and the piece of paper. helsinkitimes.fi/finland/finland-news/domestic/12767-schools-will-start-teaching-typing-instead-of-longhand-2.html
