In high school I won our local Optimist Clubs oratory contest with a speech I presented on citizenship. My freshman English teacher, Mr. New, helped me many hours and during his free time at school to prepare and organize my speech. He must have listened to me practice it 8 or 10 times, always making it a little better each time. As I think back, I am thankful today for great teachers who might have seen something in me that I would not have. He has long since passed away, but I will not forget the efforts he made to help me. Thank you to all my teachers over the years. I am a better person by far because of your influence. Karen Lantz Yeager and Susan Joyner.
