In his first interview since ousting incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu in yesterday’s runoff election for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, Rep. Bill Cassidy said his win is the “exclamation mark” on the message voters sent to Washington on Nov. 4. Last month’s midterm elections saw Republicans take control of the Senate and capture the largest majority in the House of Representatives since World War II. With Cassidy’s victory yesterday, Republicans netted a total of nine seats in the upper chamber. Talking with host Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” today, Cassidy said the GOP is the party for the “working person” and noted the Democratic Party’s “war on coal,” which kills jobs. When he becomes a senator in January, Cassidy, a medical doctor, said his foremost priority is to tackle Obamacare, which he said is “pounding the American people.”
