In his opening monologue today Glenn Beck said he wanted someone - TopicsExpress

In his opening monologue today Glenn Beck said he wanted someone to explain Jesus words, render unto Caesar what is Caesars. At the time he was talking about the events and threatened violence at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada and the sense I got from Becks monologue was pay your taxes, follow the law and engage in peaceful protest. Well, I have some disagreements with Beck this morning and Ill give him my explanation of render unto Caesar... In the days of Jesus there literally was a Caesar and Caesar literally owned the money. He shipped silver off to Gaul to be stamped into coins with which to pay his legions and his image was on those coins. In America, however, we have no Caesar. We have temporary governors, administrators, a government established by We, the People. The money is the fruits of our labor and it belongs to us - not Caesar. The federal government has the requisite legal authority to tax our money but only within certain limited delegated powers and for only specific reasons. But contrary to all proscriptions that federal government has far exceeded the bounds of sanity, reasonableness and law and quite literally is trying to break us in order to perpetrate the fundamental transformation of our once great Nation. The question of whether or not to pay taxes was posed to Jesus as a trick or a trap because the people posing the question believed there was no possible answer - tell the people to pay their taxes and He supported Romes dominance over the Jews but tell them not to pay their taxes and Rome would brand him a rebel and revolutionary. So Jesus phrased his answer the way he did - render unto Caesar what is Caesars. America has no Caesar unto whom we are required to render!
