In honor of Joseph Fitzpatrick 1987 – 2012 We miss you Relegated to the Realm of a Niche Demographic Bedtime for Boomer Chapter One, Step One, Section Two: Life at 30 frames a second… We are serfs, serfs who believe we are still somehow changing the world for the better. Thinking globally acting locally we are at least brave enough to put a “Question Authority” bumper sticker on a “Go Green” Taxicab. Well, to be honest, it’s more like a sigh of disgust as we simply declare the world changed. The world has changed; IT’s being sold to us in shiny packages, with wondrous capabilities and ever increasing nuances of the past. We breath it in, we devour it, we pray IT will lead us to salvation and intervene for us at the gates when IT is revealed, the one true revelation; that we have been put to sleep by the awesome sounds of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”. We’ve told the story as many ways as we can; there are simply no more Xtremes; no more boundaries that seem impassable. We have settled for a man in a tree, running from a tiger, in his three piece suit, on his cell phone saying “yes dear, I’d be happy to stop for groceries on the way home”. While week after week we get to cheer for the man in the tree, or the woman on the phone asking if he’s been drinking, we never see the real message. No need for (Virtual) Reality TV; this is, I assure you: “your life and you love IT… ever had that ‘Not so Clean’ feeling…” However, when we quiet our minds, the dispensaries of all the information units delivered by a 52 inch 1080i (or was it p) Home Theatre system featuring Dolby 11.2 and Picture in Picture capabilities; we hear ‘our past’; not ‘the past’. We see, for a fleeting instant; what we are, not what we could be in just 90 days for only three easy payments of $19.95. Resisting the results of the latest Gallop push-poll, we petition the Lord for a redress of grievance, submitting for her approval that we are more than the sum of 30 frames a second.
