In honor of Open House Chicago and our 60th year in this historic building, here are some fun facts about the Civic Opera House: -It first opened its doors 6 days after the stock market crash of 1929. -It is sometimes called Insulls Throne after the shape of the building as well as the Billionaire who commissioned it. -Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie had its world premiere here in 1944. -The 3,563-seat theater is the second-largest opera auditorium in North America and holds the largest stage in downtown Chicago.
