In honor of Reunion Weekend, I thought Id share a story from my 2009 visit to RISD for our 25th. When we graduated in 84, I was living in Congdon House. During the hectic move-out rush I accidentally left behind some old ski equipment that was in the basement storage room. For years I wondered what ever became of the gear: was it thrown out, taken and used, or perhaps still gathering dust in the dark? While visiting for reunion, I asked the Congdon RA if shed knew anything about it. By remarkable coincidence the storage room had just been cleaned out several weeks earlier and yes, they had indeed found some old ski stuff. She believed that a guy from Angel House (Dunnell House?) next door may have possibly salvaged it from the trash. We walked over and found the room of a young student. He answered our knock, and listened as we explained what we were looking for. I held my breath as he opened the closet, and there were my battered old skis and boots-- still with name tag attached. After 25 years they had finally found daylight once again, and perhaps get another chance to race down an icy mountain run. Not sure Id trust those ancient bindings, however… We took a few quick pics and wished him good luck. Forgot his name unfortunately, but here are the photos:
