In honor of my father on Fathers Day - - I posted this last year for Fathers Day as well.....I wrote this about my father after I read Tim Russerts book entitled Wisdom of Our Fathers: I remember growing up - whenever The Star Spangled Banner or God Bless America was being sung, you could hear my father singing his heart out. To this day whenever I hear those songs I hear my father singing them....... My father always appreciate what peole did for him - - he would always say thank you, I appreciate it. Today whenevr a family member says thank you I appreciate it, one of the grandchildren would say remember Grandpa always said that. My father had a stroke at 52 years old and he died at 56 years old. Near the end of his life he was having what they called mini-strokes. He was having the mini-strokes more often and this one time he cried and said as tears came down his face, Will my grandchildren remember me? At that time there were four grandchildren: Bryan 7, Mark 5, David 4 and Tracy 2. There are now (updated # to present) 8 grandchildren: Brittany, Brad, Savannah and Haley and 6 great-grandchildren: Briana 9, Tess 7, Ciara 6, Brady 5, Jordan 5 and Teegan 5 (I think I got their ages correct!!)...... Brittany and Brad always asked questions about their Grandfather and my mother would tell them all about him. When they were 5 years old, they asked me to take them to Grandpas grave and they wanted to stop to get flowers. My mother would tell Brad what a big Yankee fan he was. Brad has played baseball since he was 7 years old. After one of this games that he pitched in little league, he came off the field at the end of the game and said to me, Do you think Grandpa would be proud of me? Here he was thinking about his grandfather who he had never met, but knew all about him through talking with my mother over the years. When I visit his grave I always say, Dad your grandchildren remember you and even the ones you never knew. So Dad - - Happy Fathers Day from your whole family!! Love from all!!
