In honor of two of the most honorable and righteous men our nation has ever produced and in honor of their skill and gallantry on the battlefield, I wish you all a happy Lee-Jackson Day. Each year, this is a perfect time to reflect on the undeniable fact that we are a nation founded upon the principle of self-rule and predicated upon the right of a people to abolish existing political ties and form new governments consistent with the needs and desires of the citizens therein. We are a nation of states whose sovereign genesis lies in the colonial charters granted to groups of individuals willing to carve a new nation out of the wilderness for the purpose of securing liberties impossible to find elsewhere. We are a nation of diverse states which created a limited and restricted Federal government. We are a nation of states that joined together in political union for their mutual interests. We are a nation that has produced some truly extraordinary men and women -- men willing to champion and die for their families, their local communities, and the states they call home. Lees strategic brilliance, Jacksons tactical brilliance, and the gallantry of both will never be forgotten. Let us not forget the men who died under Lee and Jackson for Texas, for Arkansas, for Louisiana, for Mississippi, for Alabama, for Florida, for Georgia, for South Carolina, for North Carolina, for Virginia, for Tennessee, for Missouri, for Maryland, for Indian Territory, for our DIXIE! O Captain! My Captain! May you and your right-hand general rest in peace and may we never forget and fail to honor your sacrifice. Deo Vindice!
