In keeping friends up with our sweet girl, Mokey, she is not as - TopicsExpress

In keeping friends up with our sweet girl, Mokey, she is not as good as she was yesterday, but still better than the days before that. If youre new to the story, Mokey has suffered from megaesophagus for almost three years. That is a condition that resulted from a very severe choke that left scarring on her esophagus and, therefore, makes it more difficult to eat/swallow. Many with the condition dont survive nearly as long, but Im fortunate that I am home and able to feed her three meals of soft mash a day. There is no cure for this, and Id prefer any advice or thoughts be private messaged to me, and not shared here, lest some folks think that I am not doing everything I possibly can for her. Trust me, with the guidance of my vet and other professionals with many more years experience than I, I am going (and have gone) above and beyond for my girl. At the same time, should she be so compromised that her quality of life is diminished and she tells me she is ready to go....I will not hesitate to let her fly with the angels. While a camelid does not die from megaesophagus itself, the condition usually compromises an animal and leads to other things via aspiration, etc. (ie pneumonia) that eventually bring ... well, bring a life to an end. Who knows, her heart may give out tomorrow from this week of stress and treatments (for impaction), or she may live another ten years. I have to live my life one day at a time, because that is what I have. No matter what, most know that Mokey has been an absolute joy here, a very special llama, being slow and steady...and so-so gentle with all of our tiny children, people with special needs, and the elderly. She has given so much to this farm with her spirit and her temperament, that I remain faithfully grateful to her. Jon Katz, lost his donkey, Simon, today. I have not kept up much with his writings, so am not familiar with the complete story except to know that Simon had his own journey that also touched the lives of many. While it is a sort of sad read, it is a lovely tribute to all those who loved Simon. And, while Mokey is still with us, and we all hope she remains so, we just never know. It is in that respect that I share Katz piece with you. I dont plan to post much about Mokey for awhile, unless there is really good news (or sad news). Ive shared all I can share for now. Ive actually shared most of her last week on my farm page, and will share this there too. My farm page is: https://facebook/WunsapanaFarm?ref=bookmarks Continued thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words, inquiries, prayers, energy, and healing thoughts. Love to all.
