In ladakh, pigeons mostly nest in the mountains and hardly get opportunity to see them nesting. Whereas, in the plains we find them nest in the buildings. Recently, we saw a pigeon laid an egg on the broom kept on top of our terrace window ac. Just to facilitate them, egg was transferred into a makeshift nest. Both the pigeon started sitting over the egg turn by turn and after few days second egg was laid. We were worried; they might get disturbed by our presence as we dry our clothes in that area. However, they were comfortable with our movements. Moreover, the shy pigeons use to threaten us by raising its feathers and hitting its beak on ground, when you try to go closer to them. Till the time both the eggs were hatched things were nice however, the grown up squabs started spoiling the areas and begun foul-smelling too. We had to change news papers kept below the makeshift nest frequently. The grown up squabs under gone flying practises for many days and finally left their nest on Diwali day to explore their world. Sometimes they come back and keep sitting on the railing and disappear. It was certainly a satisfying experience. Few images/video also uploaded.......
