In late 1989 I was fortunate to be on a detachment to Honduras in as a member of AT-MAGTF 1-90. My little merry group of 13 Seabees were to deploy with 400 Marines. The Colonel in charge of this group came to Pt. Hueneme, CA to give us the deployment pre-brief. It consisted of We will be on a small stretch of Honduras between Nicaragua and El Salvadore. Bad xxxXXXXers are trying to kill each other from both countries with Honduras in the middle. We are NOT going on a training exercise. I am bringing 8 woman Marines along for the ride. Do NOT even THINK about breathing on my WMs or you WILL suffer my wrath! The only thing I was thinking was 13 Seabees, 400 Marines....8 of em are girls...The odds are in our favor! In January of 1990 we headed south and set up our little camp in a cow field. At one point in the next 90 days I found a need to step into the supply tent. Rumor had it the Colonel had set up a library of Tom Clancy and W.E.B. Griffin books. Ohhhh, whos the cutie guarding the book collection? One Corporal Lisa Flanik. Lets just say I kept my evil Seabee mitts off her til the deployment was over. On 11/17/1990 we were married at Big Bear Lake, Ca and 23 years later this Seabee is still damn lucky that sweet Marine is taking good care of me. Love you and Happy 23rd Anniversary!
