In less than a month, I will be presenting my research on the effects of the U.S. juvenile justice system on adolescent girls over the past century! By looking at how both sentencing and punishment is gendered in the detention institution, I critically evaluate what has and hasnt changed while envisioning new ways of helping girls in trouble. My fantastic classmates have ventured into topics like midwifery, exotic dancing, fat positivity, the effects of U.S. media and immigration law on Latinas, and MORE! There will be snacks. Come out and see some badass feminist research!
