In light of all that has occurred, involving police and the citizens of what I consider to be a great city and country, I have to say that the narrative of Black vs White, Police vs Citizens is counter productive, extremely divisive and just simple-minded. The recent tragedies are a result of a system that is failing those it is supposed to serve and we are all at risk of becoming victims of our own ignorance and indifference. What if being a police officer is an extremely difficult and mentally challenging job. What if responding to shots fired or domestic violence incidents makes our brave officers susceptible and vulnerable to they very human trait of zeal and aggressiveness? What if it takes a certain kind of talent, and temperament to serve and protect and have the vital task of enforcing the law? What if it takes a lot more training, more selectivity? What if being a police officer takes much more talent, intelligence and empathy than we previously thought? #thesystemisfailingus
