In light of all the recent deaths with children and animals, Im going to write today about the totally assinine, no-common-sense thing we witnessed yesterday at the Aiken Cracker Barrel. When we pulled in and parked, we noticed that all the handicap spots were taken, but one car was parked particularly poorly, and was running. As we walked past, Ed gasped and said, Oh my God, theres a baby in that car! Sure enough, the air conditioner was blasting away, the windows were all wide open--but strapped in the backseat was a baby in a carrier--and no one anywhere around. I asked him to complain to them when he gave them our name--to see if they could put the car tag over the PA system. While he did that, I sat directly in front of the car, staring at it, in case someone else walked by...because it would have been so easy to unbuckle that baby and walk off! About 5-10 minutes later, after it had been cleared with management, a girl came out and took a look at the car and hurried back inside. About 10 minutes later, out came another woman who looked to be about 30, who got in the car, check ed the baby and sat there glaring at us. I wanted so badly to get up and raise sand with her! I wanted to ask her WHAT on EARTH she had been thinking??? Eventually, the server came out with her order and she left, but not before I had heard the server giving her a good dressing down, complete with finger-shaking. Teresa, the server, then came to us and told us that she had told this woman if she ever did it again- she would report her to the sheriffs office. The woman parried with the idea that her air was on and the windows were open!!! Yes, and any baby/ child snatching person could have taken her in a heartbeat! Cracker Barrel has some good food. But there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to replace the health and safety of that child. Word to the wise: if I EVER run across a similar situation again- I WILL call 911 without a second thought. So please be sure to stress to anyone you know--use COMMON SENSE or you will pay the price! Have a great Monday, FBers!
